Durham City Girls

All the seagulls follow the Wear to Durham City.
Even though the sky was all clear, the air was gritty.
I never try too hard to arrive at any conclusions,
The sentiments I had have survived the old delusions.

Promises made weren't kept
And the places you crept were none too pretty.

When there's a hole in my timetable I walk the cobble stones.
In the shadow of the Cathedral I exercise my bones.
I'm taking time out to reassess the plans that I have planned,
The time is ripe for all to address the problem now at hand.

Space made for thinking things through
And the things that men do are none too pretty.

Durham City girls.

Space made for thinking things through
And the things that men do are none too pretty.

All the seagulls follow the Tyne into the forest.
All the young girls stand in a line up there before us.
You never get to see where they go and no one ever tells,
That's why I walk the streets to and fro for Durham City girls.
